New Faculty Basiru Usman Brings Neural Network and Mathematics Expertise to Teach Business Analytics

Basiru Usman joins Poole College from Auburn University as a teaching assistant professor in the business management department. Usman is currently working towards his doctorate degree, focusing his research on the neural network and the mathematics behind consumer decision making.

Usman will be teaching predictive analytics for business this coming fall semester and is looking forward to implementing real-world application in the classroom.

“What I love about teaching predictive analytics is when you teach students what we call regulation analysis. It has real-life application to situations like getting an estimate on a new car or house,” said Usman.

Usman received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 2012 and his Master of Science in applied mathematics in 2014 back home in Nigeria before coming to the United States.

“We are excited that Basiru Usman joins us as teaching assistant professor,” said Sebastian Heese, business management department head and professor of supply chain management. “His expertise in neural networks, machine learning and predictive modeling will be a tremendous asset, and his presence will go a long way expanding our presence and capabilities in the business analytics area.”
