Bill Rand, professor of marketing, breaks down how much travel credit cards can save frequent travelers, cash back vs. travel points and if it makes sense for once-a-year travelers to apply.
“The best travel cards can save you hundreds to thousands of dollars,” said Rand. “For instance, many airline travel cards provide a free companion pass, which essentially works out as a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for airline tickets. Often there are a lot of restrictions on when you can use these passes, but if you plan ahead, you can use them to either get an economy ticket for free when you buy an economy ticket or use it to buy first-class tickets and essentially get two first-class tickets for the price of two economy tickets.”
